Clinical Psychology for Adults
Welcome. Hospitality. Respect. Inclusion.
Services
Hello. My name is Anthony and have more than 10 years experience providing a range of psychological services for adults throughout the South East suburbs of Melbourne.
My goal is to listen carefully to you, with respect and compassion for the unique complexity of your situation, in a search for a deeper understanding of the difficulties that you are experiencing. This can support a process of healthy change or growth.
Key areas of interest and expertise include:
- experiences of anxiety and depression;
- difficulties within relationships;
- understanding the inner world of emotions;
- perinatal mental health and the transition to parenthood; and
- identity and self-esteem.
Engaging with growth, creativity and potential
Counselling provides a wonderful way to learn more about the self. How can we feel less anxious, enjoy things more, improve our relationships with others, and feel more content within ourselves? Counselling is a place where these themes can be usefully explored and you can learn more about what supports and constrains your engagement with this life.
Covid 19 and telehealth
I continue to provide face to face counselling at this time, with safety protocols in place. In addition to this you may access counselling sessions online or by telephone. The video conferencing software I use for Telehealth is secure and compliant with HIPAA regulations.

What to expect

Initial meeting
Research strongly indicates that the best predictor of a successful outcome in psychotherapy is the quality of the relationship that a person develops with their counsellor. The initial sessions are therefore very important. I will ask many questions about your life, and your immediate difficulty, and I will share with you as we go along my emerging understanding of these things. You can use these first few sessions to get a feel for the way that I think and work and, most importantly, the way that I relate to you. I encourage you to ‘trust your gut’ about whether the way we work together feels useful to you. If it does not feel like a good match for you I will gladly help you find a suitable person. I will also think carefully about the difficulty that you are facing and if this lies outside my area of expertise I can help you to find an appropriate service.
Fees
The APS recommends a fee of $300 for a 50 minute psychology consultation. The fee charged by my practice is $250, as I am committed to providing a professional service at an affordable rate. With a Medicare rebate the out of pocket expense to you is $113.65 per session, and this is available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year if you have a referral from your GP.
Consultations last 50 mins. The remaining 10 mins is for me to reflect on what has occurred in the session and take some notes that will help me understand you better.
Health fund rebates
Health Fund Rebates may be available. Check with your fund to find out if they offer rebates for clinical psychology.
Cancellation fees
If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice the full fee is payable (please note that cancellation fees are not eligible for a Medicare rebate). If I am able to re-fill the spot no fee will be charged.
